WHO IS GEN –Z?

Generation Z refers to individuals born between 1997 and 2012. This demographic cohort follows the Millennials and precedes Generation Alpha. As the first true digital natives, Gen Z has grown up in a world where the internet, smartphones, and social medias are always been present.

Key characteristics and traits of Generation Z IN GENERAL:

Digital fluency: Gen Z is highly adept at using Smart Technology. They spend significant time online for various activities, including work, shopping, and socializing.

Diversity and inclusivity: Gen Z-ers are integrated with  all Races, Castes, making them the most diverse generation in our history. They also show higher rates of LGBTQ++ identification compared with previous generations.

Pragmatism and financial consciousness: Having witnessed various economic challenges like various regional wars, and effect of Corona Endemic,  the Gen Z tends to be more pragmatic.

Entrepreneurial spirit: Gen Z exhibits strong entrepreneurial tendencies and values self-reliance.

Social consciousness: This generation is deeply concerned about social issues, including climate change, and seeks to make a positive impact.

Collaborative nature: Gen Z values flat teamwork and prefers non-hierarchical leadership structures.

Authenticity and individuality: They prioritize self-expression and avoid labels, seeking authentic experiences and connections.

Adaptability: Growing up in a rapidly changing world has made Gen Z highly adaptable and open to changes.

Mental health awareness: Gen Z places significant importance on mental health and well-being.

INDIAN GEN—Z

India’s Gen Z population is estimated at 377 to 380 million people (born roughly between 1997 and 2012), making it one of the largest youth cohorts in the world. This generation accounts for about 27% to 28% of the country’s total population. Being in a different Demographic and Economic Scale, there is difference about them with Oher ZEN-Z of the world.

Workforce share: Gen Z makes up approximately 25% of the active Indian workforce.

Voting Power: Projected to reach roughly 380 million voting-age individuals by 2029, making them a dominant political and electoral bloc. About 100 Crore eligible voters as of now, they will represent 38 Crores by next election!! Their opinion matters!

Digital Footprint: Over 93% to 95% own smartphones, serving as core digital consumers driving modern market trends.

They are educated and digitally suave, yet they face an urban youth unemployment rate of roughly 13.6% and a graduate unemployment rate hovering near 40% due to severe Skill Mismatches. Despite these entry barriers, Gen Z has doubled its share of the active Indian workforce to 26%, dramatically reshaping workplace and workforce dynamics and expectations.

The Skill-Qualification Mismatch: While entry-level employability for the 22–25 age group stands strong at 75.7%, a stark gap remains between formal degree qualifications and practical, market-ready corporate skills.

Rise of the “Effort Recession”: Rejecting traditional hustle culture, 63% of Indian firms report that Gen Z workers fulfill core responsibilities but decline to provide “discretionary effort” or work unpaid extra hours. Which I always did, and generally my son, an XENNIAL doesn’t. This may be the evolution route:—Employee—Employer relationship changed.

Job Hopping for Growth: Gen Z values rapid advancement over legacy job stability; 14% are willing to leave an employer within a single year if they observe limited career progression.

Belief-Driven Professionalism: Purpose is a key baseline, with 99% prioritizing job satisfaction and nearly 48% actively rejecting potential employers or project assignments that conflict with their personal  value system.

The Digital and Gig Safety Net: Driven by near-universal smartphone ownership (over 93%), Gen Z is heavily leaning into freelance roles, creator economies, platform delivery services, and digital gig-work as structural alternatives to formal and routine employment.

That is why—I want GOI to Privatize almost all PSUs! There is bound to be a conflict of JOB CULTURE of PSUs, and GEN-Z!

Persistent Gender and Contractual Gaps: Only about 14.1% of Gen Z workers secure formal job contracts, and approximately 35% of Gen Z women stay entirely outside the active workforce due to deep-seated domestic responsibilities and social norms.

BASIC DIFFERENCE:

Upto Millennial Generation—the trend was changing, but change was slow, and gradual. With GEN-Z, -it is altogether different.

1.-Consumer Habits & Financial Mindset

“Phy-gital” Shopping: They demand seamless omnichannel commerce options, researching heavily on social apps but frequently purchasing in-store for immediate gratification.

Credit-First Lifestyle: Unlike risk-averse older generations, Gen Z heavily relies on Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services and micro-credit to fund instant lifestyle upgrades.

Guilt-Free Indulgence: They prioritize spending on experiences, grooming, and apparel, viewing small luxuries as non-negotiable mental health investments.

Brand Authenticity Over Legacy: They completely bypass legacy brand loyalty, choosing niche, or homegrown Indian brands that align with their personal identity.

2-Workplace Expectations & Culture

Boundaries Over Hustle: They have replaced the age old  “hustle culture” with strict work-life boundaries, viewing overtime as a management failure.

Ethical Employment: Nearly half of Indian Gen Z will reject a job offer or leave an employer if the company’s environmental or social values clash with their own.

Transactional Loyalty: They treat employment as a mutual transaction; if career advancement or skill growth stalls, they will job-hop within 12 months.

3.-Digital Behavior & Social Discovery

Video-First Searching: They bypass traditional search engines like Google, using short-form video platforms like Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts as their primary discovery search engines.

Creator-Led Trust: They do not trust traditional celebrity endorsements, relying instead on micro-influencers and peer reviews for purchasing and lifestyle advice.

The Creator Economy: They view digital content creation and freelancing as legitimate, full-time career paths rather than side hobbies.

4.- Changing Social Paradigms

Delayed Milestones: They are actively delaying traditional life milestones like homeownership, and parenthood to prioritize personal financial independence, other milestones of their life and mental peace. Marriage, I think, is last priority!

Fluid Identity: They reject rigid labels regarding gender, fashion, and career tracks, preferring fluid, hyper-customized identities.

WHERE GOI and PARENTS LAGGED:

In every respect—we failed to anticipate this change beforehand in social, education, and employment, which was coming  due to DIGITAL ADVANCEMENT, & INDIA’s MIGRATION TO DIGITAL  AGE, and influence of SOCIAL MEDIAS. But, we are better off than many other countries, to cope up with this change! A SMART PHONE caused a very big  revolution, and integrated the world with rapidly advancing technology.

COCKROACH DISPUTE:

Cockroaches were, and are there in every generations—we must understand. They may be more visible now due to technology.

DIPKE, and his associates, including ANDOLONJIBIS, and OPPOSITION PARTIES are trying to use, rather ABUSE and STIGMATIZE this GENERATION to achieve their Personal Goals.

I sincerely request and appeal to this GENERATION to stay out of their clutches. THEY HAVE STIGMATIZED THIS GENERATION. THEY ARE LAZY—YOU ARE NOT!

DON’T BE A MEMBER TO CJP!! YOU ARE NOT LAZY, & AND A COCKROACH!!
